Coffee run danger no more. Hilton Head installing new asphalt pathway

For locals and tourists alike, walking and biking on Hilton Head’s Shelter Cove Lane between Shelter Cove Towne Centre and the community Starbucks closest to William Hilton Head Parkway is about to get safer and easier.

The town is building a 10-foot-wide and 900-foot-long asphalt pathway along the stretch, which will go past the Kroger fuel center and Newport Villas’ pond. It’s costing the town $410,000, according to the town capital improvement website. Construction is set to begin Jan. 15 and end March 30.

The area already has some sidewalks, but they are much narrower than 10 feet, crumbling and sloping into the street.

There will be traffic control measures and construction signage while work is being completed, according to a press release. It advised motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists use caution during construction.
