Pickup collides with Port of Port Royal building, injuring driver

A pickup crashed into the vacant Port of Port Royal building Saturday, injuring the driver, according to Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Chief Reece Bertholf.

The driver, an elderly male, was pinned under the dashboard and suffered significant injuries to his legs, Bertholf said. Firefighters freed the driver and Beaufort County EMS transported him to the hospital

The Toyota pickup was driving west on 7th Street when it failed to stop at the Paris Avenue intersection, Bertholf said.

Traffic was not disrupted, but the crowd at Bands Brews, & BBQ a block away was briefly disrupted and some voters at Port Royal Town Hall observed the scene, Bertholf said.
