Residents needed for new Hilton Head arts venue committee

Hilton Head residents interested in creating an arts campus and other venues for the arts, culture and history on the island are being sought for a new town committee.

Town Council has picked the creation of a $30 million arts and cultural campus as a priority for a proposed 1 percent countywide sales-tax increase that Beaufort County Council is considering for the November ballot. The town’s new Venue Committee would make a recommendation on that, as well as other venue needs for arts, cultural and historical organizations, according to a town news release.

Applications are open to all, but the town is especially looking for residents with a background in finance, arts, arts education, technology, development or operations of arts venues, real estate or hospitality-related businesses or those “who are familiar with the future wave of arts and culture as desired by younger generations,” the release said.

Up to 12 people would serve on the committee for a nine-month term.

The deadline to apply is March 4. Candidates must be registered voters in town. To apply, go to hiltonheadislandsc.gov/boards. For information, call 843-341-4604.
