Deep Well pays energy bills when property-tax bill overwhelms woman, 77
Marie, 77, has an income of just under $500 a month and found herself short of money when her $304 property-tax bill arrived.
That left her unable to pay her propane bill of $185 and her electric bill of $181. On top of that, Deep Well discovered that her sewer lines were backed up.
The nonprofit agency covered the bills and also paid $125 to unclog the lines.
Deep Well provides a broad range of social services for poor working families, the disabled, the sick and the elderly.
