Hilton Head Island man dies at home after running in Savannah race

A Hilton Head Island man died Saturday after completing the Rock 'n' Roll Half-Marathon in Savannah and returning home.

Robert Staiti, 47, died at Hilton Head Hospital after collapsing at home, according to a report from Savannah television station WTOC and an obituary from Saul's Funeral Home.

The cause of Staiti's death has not been determined, the Beaufort County Coroner's Office said Tuesday, and an autopsy has been ordered.

Staiti is the father of a 3-year-old daughter and an 11-month-old son.

Staiti is the second runner connected to the marathon to die this year.

A 35-year-old man from Georgia passed away during the marathon, according to WTOC.

That man's identity was not released at the request of the family.

Funeral services for Staiti will be held Thursday at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton. Viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with a memorial service following.
