Animal rescue organization to hold 5th anniversary celebration and benefit

An area animal rescue organization will mark its fifth anniversary with an upcoming open house and champagne reception.

The Palmetto Animal League in Okatie will hold the celebration from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the league's adoption center, at 56 Riverwalk Blvd., according to a news release.

The event will include a dog costume contest with registration starting at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10. All dogs must be on a leash.

The costume contest will take place at 1 p.m. and prizes will be rewarded. Owners are encouraged to dress in costume as well.

In addition, the league will hold a donation drive for the following items: wet or dry cat and dog food, paper towels, bleach, Temptations Cat Treats, bed sheets and towels.

Money raised at the event will go to the league and the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Pre-Professional Association.
