"We're masters of shag!" said Jan Schuda, left, as she and her husband, Steve, got the hang of the state dance of South Carolina during an introductory class at the Hilton Head Island branch of the Beaufort County Library on Monday afternoon.
"We're masters of shag!" said Jan Schuda, left, as she and her husband, Steve, got the hang of the state dance of South Carolina during an introductory class at the Hilton Head Island branch of the Beaufort County Library on Monday afternoon.

About 30 beginners learned the basic moves of the shag dance from Ellie Merola and John Holstein, members of the Hilton Head Island Carolina Shag Club. The club will be holding a series of six-week beginning Carolina shag classes throughout the fall and winter at the Crowne Plaza Resort. Those interested in learning more about the club and its classes can check the club's web site, www.hhishag.com.
