Bluffton will honor this legendary radio personality who died after cancer diagnosis

More than two months after his death, Savannah radio legend Mark Robertson will be celebrated by his hometown of Bluffton.

The public is invited to a celebration of life for Robertson on June 28 at The New Riverside Barn from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The beloved broadcaster and community advocated died from pancratic cancer on April 25. A resident of Bluffton, Robertson retired from radio in July 2025 after a 48-year run on the air.

For the last 29 years of his career, Robertson was a host at The River, a soft rock radio station based in Savannah with a large following in Georgia and South Carolina, a previous Island Packet article says. His voice was a “familiar and comforting presence” on the radio, an obituary for Robertson said.

“He was a steady companion to listeners during their daily commutes, known for his quick wit, warmth, and unmistakable personality,” the obituary says.

Mark Robertson’s love of animals

Adoptable pets will be available at the event in honor of Robertson’s lifelong love of animals, in collaboration with Palmetto Animal League and Hilton Head Humane Association Okatie Campus. Attendees are also asked to donate food, supplies, or money to the charities.

Current needs include Friskies canned kitten food and pate, Purina Dog Chow, Purina Puppy Chow, Purina Kitten Chow, Purina Cat Chow Complete, unflavored Pedialyte, Gerber or Beech-Nut chicken baby food, bath towels, paper towels, Dawn dish soap, cat carriers, and peanut butter without xylitol, according to a press release.
