‘A massive loss’: Community mourns Hilton Head server with ‘heart of gold’
Employees and patron of a Hilton Head pizza and sandwich shop are grieving after a server passed last week.
Geoff Gorn, a man with a “quick, dry wit and full body chuckle,” passed Tuesday evening from a heart attack, Fat Baby’s Pizza and Subs shared on Facebook last week.
“He was a valuable asset to our family and will be missed by all,” the restaurant shared on social media.
A celebration of life will be held at the restaurant Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the restaurant announced in another Facebook post. The restaurant will be closed to the public at that time.
Members of the community shared their condolences and remembered Gorn in the comments.
“Geoff Gorn was our friend for years and made us laugh every time we saw him,” wrote Tom Reitz, Beaufort County Council Member for District 11. “Our favorite server holding our special table and making years of memories with us.”
Tristan O’Grady, co-founder of COAST Brokered by eXp Realty, called Gorn a “lovely guy with a heart of gold” and a “super hard worker.”
“This is a massive loss for his family, friends & co-workers,” O’Grady wrote.
A phone call to Eric Overstake, owner of Fat Baby’s Pizza and Subs, was not immediately returned.
Fat Baby’s Pizza and Subs first opened on Hilton Head in May 2006. Located at 1034 William Hilton Parkway, the casual restaurant offers made-from-scratch pizzas and calzones, and other classic Italian-American fare.
