31-year-old driving ATV in Jasper County dies in collision with pickup truck
A Ridgeland man riding an all-terrain vehicle was killed after colliding with a pickup truck over the weekend, authorities say.
Antoine T. Johnson, 31, was pronounced dead at the hospital on Sunday, according to the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.
Johnson was one of two people driving a 2022 Yamaha ATV south on Cherry Hill Road, located just outside of Ridgeland town limits, on Sunday afternoon, according to Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Around 1:12 p.m. near the road’s intersection with Bridgetown Drive, Johnson’s ATV struck the other ATV, causing Johnson’s vehicle to collide with a 2017 Toyota Tundra pulling a trailer that was passing in the opposite direction, Bennett said in a Monday press release.
Emergency crews took Johnson to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville, where he was pronounced dead later that day, the coroner said.
SCHP troopers are investigating Sunday’s fatal collision.
Legacy Funeral Home in Estill, S.C., will be in charge of Johnson’s funeral, according to his obituary. Final arrangements had not been scheduled as of Wednesday afternoon.
The drivers of the other ATV and the Toyota Tundra were not injured, troopers said. They were the only occupants in their respective vehicles.
