Nearly $2K in property reported stolen from Bluffton storage unit, police say
A slew of household items worth nearly $2,000 was reported stolen from a Bluffton storage unit last week, according to police.
The man who rented the unit at Bluffton Parkway’s Midguard Storage called police after management told him the unit was not properly secured, according to a Bluffton Police Department incident report.
The building that houses the indoor storage units can only be accessed with a key card, the man told police. He arrived to find the door to his unit was unlocked, the report says, although he told officers he wasn’t sure if he had forgotten to lock the door himself.
The items reported stolen — including a vacuum cleaner, kitchen mixer and assorted kitchenware — were worth an estimated $1,795, the man said. He told police taking DNA samples wouldn’t be necessary as he was reporting the theft for insurance purposes only, according to the incident report. Police noted there were no cameras in the facility.
Reported thefts at storage units are not uncommon in the Bluffton area. Police have received at least six other reports of theft from units since the beginning of 2025, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office incident reports.
Items reported stolen from local storage units in that period included a PlayStation, laptop, alligator handbags, and Michael Kors purses. In a January 2025 report, a woman who reported a burglary at her unit told police she saw her missing items for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
