Shots fired overnight near downtown Beaufort, police say. What we know
No injuries were reported after overnight gunfire in a neighborhood near downtown Beaufort, police say.
Officers received multiple reports of shots fired shortly after midnight Thursday in the area of Prince Street and White Street, according to the Beaufort Police Department. Police arrived to find six shell casings in the area, according to department spokesperson Master Sgt. Sean Flomer. A man subsequently was arrested on unrelated charges that could be connected to the gunfire, he said, but investigators were waiting on video footage to bring additional charges forward.
Flomer said no property damage was observed in the area of Prince and Waight streets, located in the city’s Northwest Quadrant neighborhood adjacent to the downtown waterfront. The intersection is a short walk from Beaufort County’s government complex, which includes the northern sheriff’s office location.
