After three months of major construction, the pickleball courts at Hilton Head’s Old Schoolhouse Park are set to open back up on March 9, according to the Island Recreation Center.

The park’s six courts, located on William Hilton Parkway between Spanish Wells Road and Squire Pope Road, have been closed since early December for full replacement and resurfacing.

The project has coincided with a larger construction effort at the park led by the town, including adding accessible parking spaces, a new sidewalk connecting the parking lot to the courts, a new unisex restroom facility with a covered area, a water bottle filling station and a storage room, according to previous reporting.

Social drop-in ladder play at the park’s six pickleball courts will be open:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

All levels of play are welcome to join without pre-registration, according to a release from the Island Recreation Center.

The format for social drop-in is largely unchanged since before the construction. Court 1 is the highest level of play and Court 6 is the lowest. Players who win may move up a court and players who lose move down. Balls will not be provided during drop-in times.

Outside scheduled social play, the courts will mainly be open to members by reservation. For 2026, a yearly membership is $75, a weekly membership is $25 and a daily visitor pass is $10.
