Family-owned Caribbean restaurant announces Hilton Head closure. Here’s when & why
Red Stripes Caribbean Cuisine and Lounge will officially close its Hilton Head Island location, marking the end of a five-year run for the family-owned restaurant.
Located in the Atrium at 840 William Hilton Parkway, Unit 2, Red Stripes first opened its doors on July 30, 2020.
Known for its bold flavors and accessible pricing, with customer favorites including jerk wings, oxtails, vegan items and seafood, Red Stripes’ last day of service at the Hilton Head location will be Saturday, Jan. 17.
The Red Stripes team announced the closure via Facebook on Jan. 10, noting that they were actively searching for a new location on the island.
Owner Lakesha Daley told The Island Packet she was notified on Dec. 23 that they had to vacate the space by Feb. 1 and that investors had a “different vision” for the building, leaving Red Stripes “scrambling to relocate.”
“The closure of our Hilton Head location was abrupt and deeply troubling,” she said. “Over the years, we invested heavily in this location to support large gatherings and create a lounge space that served as a true community hub.”
While the Hilton Head location is closing, the owners emphasize that the business itself is not ending.
Red Stripes will continue operating its original Bluffton location, at 8 Pin Oak St.
“We are determined to continue,” Daley said. “We ask our community to stand with us and continue supporting locally owned businesses.”
Next steps for the Hilton Head location of Red Stripes in the Atrium is still unknown, this story will be updated when more information becomes available.
