Bluffton’s new water tower to come online in January. Here’s what it’ll mean for residents
The long-awaited 100-foot-tall, $28 million and 1.5 million-gallon water storage tank located at the intersection of Bluffton and Buckwalter parkways will officially come online the week of Jan. 5.
The new tank is designed to support 11,500 customer connections in the Bluffton area and support new businesses and health centers headed to Buckwalter.
Alongside this addition to the community, BJWSA will make changes north of the Broad River by taking the existing elevated storage tank serving the northern portion of Lady’s Island out of service for improvements beginning Jan. 5.
During this construction on the Lady’s Island tank, BJWSA said that water pressure in that area will be maintained using a temporary hydro-tank to minimize disruptions.
Why now & what does it mean for residents?
These improvements are part of ongoing efforts to maintain water quality and strengthen the region’s water distribution system, according to BJWSA.
BJWSA said that both projects were planned after the major holiday season to reduce the potential for water discoloration, but disturbances are still possible. This is because the hydraulic change in the water distribution system has the potential to temporarily create discolored water caused by the disturbance of natural mineral sediment in water mains.
Customers who notice temporary water discoloration are advised to run cold water for several minutes until it clears and to delay washing light-colored fabrics.
If water does not clear after 10 minutes, customers should contact BJWSA’s customer service center at 843-987-9200 so crews can respond.
