Rain, cold will linger across Hilton Head & Beaufort this weekend. Here’s the forecast
Christmas parades, tree lightings and winter wonderlands are set to roll out across the Lowcountry this weekend, but the weather isn’t quite lining up with festive plans.
If you’re heading out to any holiday events this weekend, keep the umbrella close and dress warmly – even though the Lowcountry’s festive spirit is still shining, the sun won’t until early next week.
From Hilton Head and Bluffton to Beaufort, residents will see a stretch of soggy, chilly days as a stubborn rain settles over the region.
Here’s what local communities can expect, weather-wise, Saturday through Monday:
A wet weekend
Across Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort, showers, mostly cloudy skies and highs stuck in the mid-50s to near 60 are expected this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, a broad stream of moisture will continue to move into the Southeast, keeping light to moderate rain in the forecast through the weekend.
Meteorologists said most of the rain will come during the daytime hours on Saturday and again Sunday afternoon, with amounts generally staying light.
Saturday brings rain and cool temps
Saturday looks to be the wettest day for Beaufort County, with a 90% chance of showers during the day and a 60% chance in the evening:
- Hilton Head: Showers beginning after 7 a.m., highs near 57.
- Bluffton: Showers after 7 a.m., also reaching about 57.
- Beaufort/Port Royal: Showers after 7 a.m., highs around 55.
Winds will stay light, turning northwest by afternoon.
The rain is anticipated to continue into Saturday night, tapering after midnight, with lows in the upper 40s.
Sunday brings clouds with on-and-off showers
Sunday brings a small break from the steady rain, but not the clouds. The NWS expects another batch of showers to pass through by late morning and linger into the afternoon:
- Hilton Head: 40% chance of rain, high near 60.
- Bluffton: 40% chance of rain, high near 60.
- Beaufort/Port Royal: 30% chance of rain, high near 59.
Monday brings a spot of sun
A last round of showers is expected Monday morning, with only about a 20% chance of rain before 1 p.m.
In the afternoon, highs will settle in the mid to upper 50s, and skies are set to be partly sunny. By Monday night, skies will clear, but temperatures will drop into the mid-30s inland and upper-30s near the coast.
Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 60s by Wednesday.
