Thanksgiving cold front to bring chilly weather to Hilton Head. Here’s how cold
After a recent bout with chilly temperatures, folks across the Hilton Head area have been soaking up the mild fall temperatures.
But residents may want to pull out their Thanksgiving sweaters again this week, as a cold front is expected to sweep through the Lowcountry just in time for the holiday.
While the week has had a quiet, pleasant start, here’s the latest forecast from the National Weather Service for areas north and south of the Broad River and when the cold front is expected to kick in:
Early week sunshine
On Tuesday, expect partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s across both the Beaufort and Hilton Head areas. Overnight lows dip to the low 60s.
Wednesday — one of the busiest travel days of the year — stays warm, with highs in the mid and upper 70s. Both areas north and south of the Broad have a 20% chance of showers after 1 p.m., NWS says, though rainfall should be light or minimal.
By Wednesday night, the cold front sweeps through, sending temperatures tumbling into the upper 40s on Hilton Head and the mid-40s in Beaufort, marking the beginning of the holiday cool down.
Thanksgiving Day chill
While the turkeys may be thawed, the weather won’t be.
Highs only reach the low 60s, about 62 on Hilton Head and 61 in Beaufort on Thanksgiving Day. Despite a slight chill, the holiday will be sunny and dry.
Cool, clear weather settles on Thursday night, with lows falling to around 40 on Hilton Head and about 37 degrees in Beaufort. Inland spots may briefly dip below freezing, but no freeze alerts will be issued, according to the NWS.
Black Friday & into the weekend
The weekend continues that trend, with sunny, crisp days and cold nights.
Highs climb to the mid-50s Friday, one of the chillier days of the week, with temperatures warming slightly into the upper 50s Saturday. Overnight lows stay cold, ranging from the upper 30s in Beaufort to the low 40s on Hilton Head, with inland areas expected to be colder.
By Sunday, temperatures rebound into the upper 60s as clouds move back in, and a 20% chance of showers returns.
