Free Thanksgiving meals from Hilton Head to St. Helena. Here’s when and where

The Lowcountry has a long tradition of looking out for its neighbors — especially by making sure everyone can enjoy a home-cooked meal on Thanksgiving.

For decades, free community gatherings on both sides of the Broad River have continued that spirit, powered each year by hundreds of dedicated volunteers, keeping that tradition alive again this Thanksgiving.

Here’s a list of locations serving free, community Thanksgiving meals this year.

Marshview Community Organic Farm

  • 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26
  • Home-cooked meal, including turkey, rice, gravy, collard greens and cornbread at 10 De Gullah Way on St. Helena Island.

The Parish Church of St. Helena

  • The church service begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at 505 Church Street. From 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., a turkey dinner will be served at the Parish Hall at 507 Newcastle Street.
  • This will be the 46th year that the church has served free dinner for the public.
  • Deliveries are also available for the home-bound by calling 843-522-1712

Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks

  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The annual Thanksgiving community dinner is sponsored by St. Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church and Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks.
  • The free community family-style event has been taking place since 1999, with over 400 volunteers serving more than 1600 guests.

Sea Eagle Market on Boundary Street

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sea Eagle Market is hosting a free community Thanksgiving lunch at its Boundary Street location, 2149 Boundary Street.
  • Donations of winter coats, socks and shoes will also be collected.

Hemingway’s Bistro

  • Starts at 2 p.m. The full bar will be available until 1:30 a.m.
  • Hemingway’s Bistro host the annual “Orphans and Strays Thanksgiving” potluck alongside Panini’s on the Waterfront. The restaurants will prepare the main entrees, but can “bring a dish” if they are able.
