Update: Traffic slowly moving again after 18-wheeler crash on I-95 in Hardeeville

Traffic is slowly moving again a few hours after an accident involving two 18-wheelers on Interstate 95 Thursday.

South Carolina Department of Transportation cameras showed cars moving north and south on the highway as of 6:25 p.m. The average speed was 25 miles per hour, compared to 3 miles per hour around 2:30 p.m.

Earlier in the day, the Hardeeville Police Department encouraged drivers to avoid I-95 North near exit 5, where all lanes of traffic were blocked by one of the 18-wheelers that was on its side across the highly-traveled interstate.

At around 2:30 p.m. police told the public on social media to avoid the area for the following six hours.

The Hardeeville Police Department advised drivers to avoid I-95 North at exit 5 until about 8 p.m. Thursday because of a traffic accident blocking all lanes of travel.

Vehicles started using the shoulder to drive around the collapsed truck after nearly 30-minutes of standstill traffic.

As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, a spokesperson with the police department was not able to provide information about any injuries from the accident.
