No-swim advisory issued for Hilton Head as Hurricane Erin pounds Atlantic

Officials are advising Hilton Head beachgoers to stay out of the water for the next two days to avoid dangerous rip currents and large swells.

Swell waves from Hurricane Erin are expected to impact beaches across the Atlantic coast this week, according to the National Weather Service.

“Life-threatening rip currents are likely. Swimming conditions are unsafe for all levels of swimmers,” the NWS posted to X Monday.

Three to five foot breaking waves are forecasted for Tuesday, and four to six foot waves are expected Wednesday and Thursday, according to the NWS.

Numerous flash rips were seen by Hilton Head lifeguards Monday, according to Shore Beach Service. The company reported on Facebook that one person had to be rescued from the surf Monday.
