As hurricane season progresses, with peak activity historically occurring through the fall months, many homeowners may be curious about how much flood insurance will cost to protect their homes.

While storms and their impacts can be unpredictable, data from the National Flood Insurance Program shows which areas pay the most for flood insurance and gives prospective residents an idea of which areas are most at risk.

How is this data calculated?

The NFIP calculates flood insurance rates based on ZIP code area exposure to weather variables, including inland floods, storm surges, tsunamis, the Great Lakes and coastal erosion.

Using data from single-family homes insurance policies, in force as of Aug. 31, 2023, the NFIP gauges the median policy cost on an annual basis.

What is the cost for areas in Beaufort County?

According to this data, the median cost of flood insurance across Beaufort County is $706, with 100% of flood insurance policies being exposed to inland flooding risks. On top of that, 99.9% of policies in the county face storm surge exposure and 8.1% face coastal erosion exposure.
