As vacationers and locals alike gear up for beach getaways to Hilton Head Island or a weekend trip to historic Beaufort, it can sometimes be difficult to find the most economical places to refuel.
To determine some of the more price-friendly options, we scrutinized gas prices for a gallon of regular fuel across Beaufort County to help aid in your pit-stop decision-making.
While South Carolina generally boasts lower fuel costs than neighboring states, prices will always vary depending on the station you visit, the car you drive and the type of gas your vehicle takes.
Here is what we found in our price comparison of gas stations across Beaufort County this June:
What are gas price averages right now?
According to data from AAA, formerly the American Automobile Association, these are the national and local gas price averages as of Friday, June 12:
National average: $3.13
South Carolina average: $2.72
Beaufort County average: $2.78
To determine the locations of the cheapest and most expensive gas prices this June, we searched using GasBuddy, looking at stations across Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort and Port Royal.
The following prices reflect the cost per gallon of regular fuel using a card payment.
Hilton Head gas prices
According to GasBuddy and in outreach to stations, regular gas prices in Hilton Head Island range from $2.78 to $3.11 per gallon this month.

Bluffton gas prices
GasBuddy shows that regular gas prices in Bluffton this month range from $2.62 to $2.99 per gallon.

Based on what we found at the pump on Friday, June 12, the most expensive gas throughout all of Beaufort County this month is $3.11 per gallon, which was found at the Shell station located on 4 Palmetto Bay Road in Hilton Head.
The cheapest option this month was $2.59 per gallon, which was found at the Enmarket located on 2265 Boundary Street in Beaufort.
If you’re planning to stop for gas off Interstate 95 at Exit 8 onto U.S. 278, the cheapest option this month per gallon was $2.89, which can be found at:

Membership pit stops
Membership-based retailers like Sam’s Club and Costco often provide discounted fuel prices.
Of these membership locations, visitors and locals can find competitive prices at the Bluffton Sam’s Club located on 14 Bluffton Road, with regular gas priced at $2.67 per gallon.
While Hilton Head Island itself doesn’t have these other outlets, nearby cities like Savannah and Charleston have locations that might offer savings for members:
Other Sam’s Club locations: Fayetteville, Florence, Raleigh, Charlotte, Charleston and Columbia.
Costco locations: Pooler, Wilmington, Raleigh, Charlotte, Charleston and Columbia.
Cash payment & fuel reward programs
There were also gas stations in Bluffton and Beaufort that offered cheaper prices per gallon if using cash payment. These included:
