Here’s what will be built across from the planned Buc-ee’s in Hardeeville
Drivers who frequent Exit 8 on I-95 are about to see a large construction project rise out of the newly cleared land on the east side of the interstate.
No, it’s not the much-anticipated Buc-ee’s (that’s still in the works on the west side) but a sizable apartment village touting more than 300 units.
Hardeeville has undergone significant development and growth over the last year. The city, conveniently nestled between Bluffton, Hilton Head and Savannah, will see the introduction of a 400+ acre development along the Exit 8 interchange that connects major transportation routes in the Lowcountry.
But the addition of this new apartment complex and Buc-ee’s station is just a small piece of what’s to come.
According to Bryan McClure of ROI Real Estate, which is overseeing this development, this project is intended to be “one of the most exciting additions to the Lowcountry.”
Here’s what we found out about this ongoing construction and development.
What is it going be?
Assistant Planning Director for the City of Hardeeville, Katie Woodruff, confirmed that the construction and ongoing land clearing happening along I-95 northbound at Exit 8 is a new apartment complex.
This new complex, named Hillpointe Apartments, is located behind the Coastal Carolina Hospital and Hampton Hotel.
The company overseeing the construction, Hillpointe, is based out of Winter Park, Florida, just outside of Orlando, and is known for its focus on high-quality workforce housing. This new development is set to hold roughly 360 apartment units and construction will largely be overseen by Ward Edwards Engineering.
According to Kevin Farruggio, an ROI Real Estate broker, this development for the complex is expected to take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete.
But this addition of the Hillpointe Apartments and Buc-ee’s is only the beginning of this project in Hardeeville, according to McClure.
Another area of this development, which will be built off U.S. 278 behind the Dunkin’ Donuts and Enmarket, will encompass restaurants, hotels, retail centers, townhomes and apartment space.
“This entire area and its development have been in the works since 2012,” said McClure. “It’s exciting to see this all come together, and we’re hoping it will turn into the gateway to the Lowcountry.”
According to McClure, this first phase of the development coincides with other large projects, including improvements to I-95 and the development of the TS Conductor site, which are intended to transform this area within the next few years.
Hardee Station and the Buc-ee’s location have not changed, and it will be located on the southbound side of I-95, toward Savannah.
