Can I use a short-term rental property for my event?
It’s no secret that the Lowcountry is home to more than a handful of short-term rental properties.
Some savvy event planners have opted to find Airbnb or other short-term rental properties available for event purposes.
While some short-term rentals may allow small gatherings, most do not.
Here’s why:
No party policies: Airbnb rentals, in particular, have a no-party policy, according to the company. If you try to book an Airbnb for a celebration, your reservation could be flagged, restricted or even canceled.
Pricing: When booking short-term rentals, you’re often required to select a multi-night stay. Even if you only need the space for a few hours, you may end up spending more if your event only lasts an afternoon or evening.
Guest limits: Short-term rental properties limit the number of people who can stay in the space for safety, noise, and fire hazard concerns. For rentals in the Beaufort County area, the max occupancy is typically two people per bedroom plus two additional people. If there are more people than permitted in the space, you may risk losing your reservation.
Short-term rentals aren’t designed for events: When it comes to catering, vendors, car space and other practicalities of event hosting, most rental properties can’t accommodate.
Even with these limitations, there are luckily some rental spaces on platforms like Airbnb, Vrbo and Peerspace that can hold large groups.
When looking for these locations, make sure to either filter your search for these large rental properties or search for spaces designed to hold the maximum number of guests.
