Ice cream, pizza & more are coming soon to Bluffton. When can you visit?
Looking for a new spot to grab an ice cream and pizza this summer?
One of Bluffton’s newest developments, the Compass Commons at New Riverside Village, is starting to show signs of life.
This thoughtfully planned mix of local businesses, townhomes, retail spaces and more is inching closer to opening its doors.
At the corner of New Riverside Road and S.C. 46, the development has been long-anticipated, as it is set to bring a handful of beloved Lowcountry favorites.
Initially approved by the Bluffton Town Council in February 2020, the project has steadily progressed despite minor construction delays.
Compass Commons, with rental spaces overseen by The Richardson Group, spans four buildings that cover over 16,000 square feet.
The space is intended to represent locally rooted businesses, mirroring those located on Hilton Head Island within Coligny Plaza, according to Lee Lucier, Chief Operating Officer of The Richardson Group.
A few businesses are set to open within the next two weeks, including:
According to Lucier, these additional locations are now anticipated to open by August.
Frosty Frog, Local Pie, Cafe Al Dente and Burke’s Pharmacy have had long-time businesses in the Lowcountry, with the Compass Commons providing a new space to expand their markets.
Nom Nom Poke Shop is based in Savannah, and this new location in Bluffton serves as its second location.
Jay Fraser, President of Fraser Construction, which has spearheaded the development of the Compass Commons space, noted that the development will feature a stained concrete piece of a compass rose design to serve as an ode to the history of the company and provide a fun space for visitors to enjoy their sweet treats.
Several prominent Lowcountry firms are involved in the project’s construction and design, including Fraser Construction, D. Anderson Construction, Kendrick Construction and Lone Star are handling various shell and interior build-outs, which are almost complete, according to Fraser.
With the majority of tenants in Compass Commons anticipated to open in the coming weeks and into the fall, these businesses located on the other side of the development are already open and ready to welcome visitors:
An official opening date has yet to be confirmed.
