Your guide to Earth Day events happening in the Beaufort & Hilton Head areas
With Earth Day right around the corner, on Tuesday, April 22, the area is buzzing with opportunities to celebrate and give back to the place that so many call home.
Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly celebration, an educational experience or a chance to get your hands dirty for a good cause, the Hilton Head and Beaufort have it all this year.
Here’s a look at some of the events happening to celebrate this Earth Day.
Hilton Head Beach Clean-up
Hosted by The Outside Foundation, help pick up litter and trash along all 12 miles of Hilton Head’s beaches this Earth Day. The Coligny Beach group sweep is from 8 to 10 a.m., but the beach clean-ups last all day. To register your clean-up group and pick up supplies, visit EarthDayHHI.com.

Island Recreation Center Earth Day Event
Join the Island Recreation Center for an Earth Day celebration that provides activities for the whole family. This event will host a clean-up, kayaking, crafts and a meet and greet with Cornelius the snake.
When: Tuesday, April 22; 4-6 p.m.
Where: Rowing & Sailing Center at Squire Pope Community Park in Hilton Head
Tickets: Free, but a signup is required
Beaufort Litter Patrol Earth Day Cleanup
Take part in an Earth Day clean-up with Beaufort Litter Patrol and Grounded Running at the beloved Spanish Moss Trail. This clean-up will take place at the organization’s adopted area of the trail. If you go, make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
When: Tuesday, April 22; 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Where: Roseida Road Parking For Spanish Moss Trail, 1001 Hodge Drive, Beaufort
Oyster Reef Build with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
Help participate in the restoration of oyster reefs along the Beaufort River. You’ll get to build and place new reefs in the river, contributing to the conservation and health of the river. If you go, be prepared to get muddy, wet and be comfortable working in pluff mud.
When: Thursday, April 24; 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Parris Island Boat Ramp, 21 Marina Boulevard, Beaufort
Tickets: This event is free, but sign-up is required
Earth Month Litter Clean Up at PRSF Maritime Center
Take part in a clean-up with the Port Royal Sound Foundation as part of Beaufort County’s Earth Day projects. This clean-up will be at the Maritime Center. If you go, make sure to wear closed-toe shoes.
When: Saturday, April 26; 9-11 a.m.
Where: Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center, 310 Okatie Highway, Okatie
Tickets: This event is free, but sign-up is required
Sun City Hilton Head Earth Day
Hosted by the Sun City Environmental Club, this event will feature over 25 groups presenting and providing displays and information about the Lowcountry environment. This Earth Day celebration is perfect if you’re looking for something more educational.
