Looking for a new Easter tradition?

Beaufort Academy will host its fifth annual Easter egg drop on Saturday, March 29.

This event brings nearly 20,000 Easter eggs filled with prizes, but instead of them hiding within the grass or behind rocks in the backyard, these goodie-filled eggs will be dropped from a helicopter onto the Beaufort Academy football field.

Once dropped, the race to collect them turns into the largest Easter egg hunt in Beaufort. All participants in the egg drop will be given a special bag upon arrival to collect their eggs.

This Great Helicopter Egg Drop will be held on Lady’s Island at Beaufort Academy on Saturday, March 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The entire community is invited to join. Admission to the event is free, but pre-registration is required for children who want to participate in the egg drop and enjoy the other activities. Click here for the event page and ticket information. According to the event webpage, this year’s event will be limited to the first 1,300 children who register.

The egg drop and hunt is ideal for kids aged 4 to 11.

Prizes within the eggs include gift certificates to Chick-Fil-A, Monkey’s Uncle, Kilwins, Cookies by Charlotte, Beaufort Candy Shoppe, toys, scooters and more. If you’re lucky enough to find a golden egg, they will have a ticket for other great prizes.

But beyond the egg-filled fun, the event is set to bring bounce houses, balloon artists, face painters, a petting zoo, live music, 10 local food trucks and even free photos with the Easter Bunny.

Tickets and admission include participation in one of the six age-specific egg hunts, unlimited access to the bounce area and a photo. The schedules for each egg drop and the intended age range can be found on the event page.

If you want to visit solo, you can join the food trucks for lunch, shop with various vendors and enjoy the community atmosphere.

Face painting and the petting zoo are available for an additional cost.

Beaufort Academy is located at 240 Sams Point Road on Lady’s Island.

Guests will be allowed to park in available spots at Beaufort Academy and at the one shuttle location on Sams Point Road.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Sunday, March 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Egg drop times will remain the same.

The helicopter that drops the eggs across the field is booked through the Hilton Head Helicopter Tours, which offer tours across the Lowcountry. If you are interested in a helicopter tour, you can book through their website.
