Bluffton, Port Royal and Hilton Head locals who enjoy a cup of coffee and an egg and cheese biscuit will soon get their morning pick-me-ups with a $2 upcharge.

Due to the ongoing egg shortage that’s hammering farmers, grocery stores and restaurants across South Carolina, upcharges are the unfortunate answer for these establishments.

Corner Perk Roasters & Eatery is now having to manage the rising cost.

To do this, they have added a temporary $2 upcharge to any dishes with eggs. According to an email sent out to customers, this upcharge will remain in place until egg prices stabilize.

To help ease customer woes, the restaurant stated that it is offering a $2 off coupon for any of its toasts or flatbread items.

Corner Perk Roasters & Eatery has three locations in Beaufort County:

  • 45 Pembroke Drive, Suite #120 in Hilton Head

  • 1297 May River Road in Bluffton

  • 1628 Paris Avenue in Port Royal

Corner Perk Roasters & Eatery did not respond to requests for comment on the upcharge by publication.

Why is there a shortage?

This egg shortage is due to the outbreak of avian flu, a strand of bird flu, which has resulted in record-breaking chicken deaths, with tens of millions of chickens now gone.

This has caused a scarcity of eggs nationwide, resulting in skyrocketing prices.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, heat and sunlight help break down the virus, so with the warmer temperatures coming in, this shortage could end soon.
