Indoor pickleball club gets official opening date in Hilton Head. Here’s when and where
Ace, kitchen, carry and rally are all words you might hear from novice and seasoned players on the pickleball court.
Soon, pickleball players on Hilton Head Island will be able to enjoy this fast-growing sport at the new indoor facility, Dill Dinkers, officially set to open on March 5.
Dill Dinkers, will be located in a portion of the vacant Sam’s Club in the Port Royal Plaza at 95 Mathews Drive. Right by Folly Field and Burkes Beaches, the new club is easily accessible to surrounding neighborhoods, making it a prime spot for residents and tourists to visit on a rainy day.
The name of the facility is a clever play on more pickleball lingo, with the words “dill” and “dink” being used to define a strategic soft shot of a ball.
Dill Dinkers has multiple locations across the country stretching from Texas to Connecticut, with this new location in Hilton Head set to be the first in the Lowcountry.
Indoor pickleball courts have grown in popularity in recent years.
To play at Dill Dinkers, you can become a member and purchase an introductory single membership for $475, a couples membership for $875 or a family membership (for up to five family members) for $1,350.
You do not have to be a member to use the facility. Visitor’s court fees are $18 per person an hour and open play costs $21 per person per 2-hour session. You can also book courts 48 hours in advance.
Players will be able to reserve court spaces on CourtReserve, a tennis and pickleball-specific reservation software.
The new club will feature eight indoor Pro-Cushion courts with fences, a ball machine, clinics, private lessons, open play, round robins, leagues and a pro shop powered by Pickleball Central. With all of these activities, the club will cater to players of all ages and skill levels.
Dill Dinkers will also have a dedicated event space, perfect for anniversaries, parties or team playing. The event space can host up to 60 people.
According to previous reporting, this location has been vacant since 2017. It was purchased by Hilton Head businessman, J.R. Richardson, owner of the Richardson Group, for $5.8 million.
Two Hilton Head residents, Zach Larichiuta and Dr. Wayne Johnson, signed the lease to transform the former grocery store into a pickleball hotspot. Larichuta and Johnson make up half of a group called the Pickleball Brothers LLC., which hopes to develop pickleball facilities in the area.
“Our goal is to establish a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that fosters a strong sense of community,” Larichiuta said. “We look forward to offering an exceptional player experience, bringing the community together and growing the sport’s presence.”
With pickleball’s growing popularity, the Dill Dinkers indoor facility is expected to bring activity and fun to players of all ages across the Lowcountry.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and grateful for the support we’ve received along the way,” said Pete Bernstein, the director of operations and sales for Dill Dinkers. “We can’t wait to open our doors and share this amazing facility with everyone.”
