Hospitals in the Hilton Head area earned a score between average or below average in a new report from the Leapfrog Group, a national independent nonprofit that prioritizes patient safety and care.

The fall 2024 evaluations analyzed roughly 3,000 hospitals on their ability to prevent medical errors, accidents and infections.

“All hospitals are not the same,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, in a press release. “That’s why it’s so important for people to consult grades when making decisions about seeking care.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is focused on preventing medical errors and patient harm. It is fully transparent, free to the public and updated biannually in the fall and spring.
