Around 70,000 passengers will make their way through the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport for Thanksgiving travel starting Wednesday, said Lori Lynah, the director of marketing and air service development for the airport. By Wednesday morning, the parking lots adjacent to the terminal had reached full capacity, Lynah said. The airport has now opened up an additional lot for travelers to leave their cars before departing for the long weekend.

Because of demand and in anticipation of the holiday’s expected surge in travelers, the airport opened an additional checkpoint and an additional surface lot, Lot D, with 640 spaces.

Lot D is located off of Aggett Drive next to the cell phone waiting lot. When driving on Airways Avenue towards long-term parking, Aggett Drive will be on the right. For those dropping passengers, the airport recommends dropping them and their luggage off the curb before parking to save time. It will cost a flat fee of $35 to park in Lot D, and a shuttle will be running to and from the terminal.

According to the American Automobile Association, 79.9 million travelers will venture out during the holiday week, nearly equaling the previous record of 80 million last year. Nearly six million passengers will fly domestically this holiday.

Lot D, located off of Aggett Drive is now open for additional parking. It will cost a flat fee of $35 to park in Lot D, and a shuttle will be running to and from the terminal.
