Here are 4 Veterans Day events to attend in Beaufort County to honor those who’ve served

Veterans Day is set to take place on Saturday. To celebrate, Beaufort County has plenty of events to honor our military veterans.

Regardless of the day it falls on, Veterans Day takes place annually on Nov. 11 to commemorate and celebrate American war veterans.

Here are four Beaufort County events to visit for Veterans Day this year.

  • A Veterans Day Ceremony will again be taking place in the Shelter Cove Veterans Memorial Park, which can be found at 59 Shelter Cove Lane. The event will take place on Nov. 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. If the event is set to occur during a potential rain forecast, the event will be located at St. Andrew by the Sea at 20 Pope Avenue on Hilton Head Island.

  • The Beaufort County Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting the 2023 Veterans Day Parade through downtown Beaufort on Saturday, November 11th, which will officially begin at 10 a.m. and begin at the Beaufort National Cemetery. The 2023 parade route will begin on Adventure Street, go through Boundary Street to Carteret Street to Bay Street and will end on Bladen and Boundary Streets. This year, USMC veteran Joan Petrucci was chosen for this year’s grand marshal and will be in the lead car to kick off the parade. However, the parade will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

  • The American Legion Post 205 7th Annual Veterans Day Parade in Bluffton will take place in Old Town Bluffton this year on Nov. 11 beginning at 9 a.m. This annual event is free to the public and is sponsored by American Legion Post 205. The parade route will be from Alljoy Road to Calhoun Street, through Promenade Street and ending at Dr Mellichamp Drive. The parade will feature various cars, floats, color guards, marching bands and more.

  • A Veteran’s Day Saltwater Fishing Event will be held by the SCDNR Fishing Outreach on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for free admission. Veterans, military members and families will have the opportunity to learn from SCDNR-certified fishing instructors, SCDNR staff and Marine Corps staff on the pier at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island to learn about saltwater fishing. Rods, reels and bait. Everything needed will be available for you to use and borrow at this event. You must have a valid military ID/DoD ID to get on the base or fill out the required information to get cleared to go on the base.
