Beaufort man dies in Sunday night bicycle collision

A bicyclist is dead after a fatal collision with a a four-door Mercedes at 9:20 p.m. Sunday on Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort. At the time of the collision, both the car and cyclist were traveling westbound, according to Lance Corp. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist, Larry Crosby, 64, of Beaufort, was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital after the collision. Crosby died from blunt force trauma, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner Margaret Bowyer.

The collision happened near Burton Hill Road and little information is currently known about the collision as it is still under investigation by Highway Patrol, Pye said.
