The Bluffton Police Department’s community event and celebration, “Night of Unity,” has been canceled over concerns for nasty weather.

A high chance for thunderstorms Thursday afternoon, and into the night, was the cause for concern the event which would have started at 5:30.

Night of Unity would have featured hotdogs, hamburgers, music and positive messages from multiple faith-based organizations, will be rescheduled for a later date. Though, the date has not been set.

Chief of Police Joe Babkiewicz was to announce a new BPD outreach program called “Blessings for Bluffton.”

“This program, which was the brainchild of BPD’s Victims Advocate Kate Cooler, will provide a one-time gift of assistance for those who are experiencing a challenging time such as a house fire, death of family member and so forth,” the Town of Bluffton said in a press release.
