Hilton Head Labor Day Weekend weather: Skies clear after Hurricane Idalia
The skies over Hilton Head Island have cleared just in time for Labor Day Weekend after Hurricane Idalia
The tempest that battered Florida as a Category 4 Hurricane — but passed through the Lowcountry later as a tropical storm — left large trees and hefty limbs downed throughout Beaufort County thanks to high wind gusts and roughly 6 inches of rain.
After tracking back into the Atlantic, however, Idalia has left behind cooler temperatures and clear skies for tourists heading to Hilton Head for the long weekend. It’s unlikely the mid-week winds and rain did much to turn travelers off of Hilton Head, which Airbnb and other travel sites have historically ranked among the top Labor Day destinations in the U.S.
Saturday, beachgoers can expect a low of 70 degrees throughout the morning, with a comfortable high of 83 later in the day. A UV index of 8 throughout the day and humidity at 64% means anyone spending extended time outside should bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat.
The early weekend temperatures are slightly cooler than average for the start of September in Idalia’s aftermath, a trend that will continue Sunday.
For Sunday, forecasts predict a high of 83 once again, with a slightly cooler low of 69 degrees. Clearer skies are likely to bring a higher UV index of 10, with humidity at 59%.
Monday will bring the highest temperatures of the holiday weekend at a still-comfortable 86 degree high and low of 70.
No rain is forecast for any day this weekend.
