Chief meteorologist Kris Allred is leaving WSAV, the Savannah television station is expected to announce on its 6 p.m. news broadcast Monday.

Allred has been on a leave of absence for the last six weeks helping a family member.

“It was supposed to be short term and now is long term,” she told The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.

On Monday morning, she was packing up her Savannah home for the move back to the Cullman, Alabama, area where she was raised.

She said she won’t be working for a television station after the move, at least not right away.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” she said. “I’m going to help family and then figure it out.”

Allred has been chief meteorologist at WSAV for nearly 16 years and said she has appreciated viewers in Beaufort County and those who invited her to speak to community groups.

“I have been welcomed since day one,” she said. “I have made some good friends over there.”
