Hilton Head residents may notice a higher rates in their next water bill after increased water and sewer rates at two of the island’s three public service districts took effect July 1.

At its June 28 meeting, the island’s Public Service District No. 1 which services the island’s north end approved a rate increase for fiscal year 2024. Residents will now be charged $1.52 per 1,000 gallons over their first 10,000 gallons of water usage each month, up from the previous year’s $1.47 per gallon. This change represents a 3.4% increase.

The sewer rate also increased 16 cents or 8%, from $2.00 to $2.16. Fees for connecting sewer and backflow inspection rose 50% from $100 each to $150 for sewer connection and $175 for backflow inspection.

The South Island Public Service District also approved a fee bump at its June 27 commission meeting. South end residents now pay $1.40 per 1,000 gallons of water usage for the first 6,000 gallons each month, representing a 12% hike from last year’s rate schedule.
