Hilton Head Island’s Gullah Museum is reopening July 1, just in time for its annual Gullah Heritage Festival and with new attractions open to the public.

The museum originally closed for renovations in May, museum spokesperson EJ Stephens said. With the preservation work complete, museum visitors will be able to walk through buildings that had previously been inaccessible, including houses that were historically home to the island’s migrant workers and a trailer that was converted into a home in the 1950s.

The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 1, Stephens said. The celebration features a full lineup of live music performances, food vendors, face painting and a bounce castle for kids.

Tickets can be purchased at the event or ahead of time online. Tickets cost $10 for ages 15 or older and $5 for ages 14-4. Children 3 and under can enter free.

More information on entertainment and tickets is available at the Gullah Museum’s website.
