Beaufort Co. libraries giving free lunches and prizes for reading this summer
The Beaufort County Library System and Beaufort County School District have yet again united to put on free summer lunches and reading programs for local kids.
Free lunches will be available at all library branches to any Beaufort County resident that is between the ages of 0-18 years old for five days a week, Monday through Friday, from June 7 until August 4, according to a press release from the district. The only exception is July 4 due to the fact that all library branches will be closed for the patriotic holiday.
Each library has a specific sponsor, the sponsor being a school in the district, that provides the lunches to the library each day, detailed Melissa Vest as she was handing out meals on Friday, June 9.
The free lunches will be provided at each library branch during specific hours.
For interested individuals, the Monday through Friday lunch schedule for each library branch is as follows,
Hilton Head Branch Library: 10-11:30 a.m. at 11 Beach City Road
Bluffton Branch Library: 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at 120 Palmetto Way
Beaufort Branch Library: noon until 12:45 p.m. at 311 Scott Street
St. Helena Branch Library: 10:30-11:30 a.m. at 6355 Jonathan Francis Sr. Rd.
Lobeco Branch Library: 1:15-2:15 p.m. at 1862 Trask Parkway
In addition, the county library system’s summer reading program began June 1 and will continue through July 31.
The reading program encourages kids of all ages to engage with their local library by participating in a “game” where reading participants can be rewarded and earn free prizes for themselves.
This year’s reading program is entitled “All Together Now” and will continue through July 31.
If you’re looking to get involved, game boards for the program will be available at all library branch locations or can be printed off online. Participation is easy with no registration needed, and owning your own free library card is not required.
