Five ducklings rescued from a Beaufort Co. neighborhood drain Saturday afternoon
Five ducklings reportedly fell down a drain in a Beaufort neighborhood Saturday. A rescue team was soon on its way.
At approximately noon, Engine Company 4 of the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department received a call from a homeowner in the Shadow Moss community who said five ducklings had fallen down a nearby storm drain.
The responding firefighters were able to remove the grate and rescue the ducklings with a fishing net, according to Ross Vezin, deputy chief of operations.
No ducklings were hurt or injured during their rescue.
The department has responded to several similar incidents in the past. A couple of times a year, wild ducklings will fall down drains and need help getting out, Vezin said.
Following their rescue, the five ducklings were released in the same area in which they were found, so they could be reunited with their mom, he said.
