There are 3 equestrian experiences in Beaufort County, SC? Take a look

Hilton Head Island is losing one of the few unique equestrian experiences in Beaufort County.

Driftwood Stable, located at 200 Jonesville Road on the island, is being forced to relocate as the area is set to be rezoned for residential use.

With the number of unique equine experiences dwindling in the area, what other places provide similar offerings?

Here are three unique equestrian experiences that offer trail rides on horseback around Beaufort County.

Lawton Stables

Located on Hilton Head Island, Lawton Stables provides several family friendly options for the best equine experience. The stable offers unique trail rides, pony rides and an animal farm. The trail ride is a one hour, guided, western-style tour that will take guests into the 600+ acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Pony rides are given to those 7 years old or younger on Shetland ponies. They last the duration of two laps around the animal farm.

It is recommended that riders be at least 18 months old or able to sit up on their own. The animal farm offers a collection of small animals, which include goats, miniature donkeys, miniature cows, pot-bellied pigs, alpacas, ponies and chickens. Guests can feed the animals after purchasing a portion from the feed machine for just $0.25. All other pricing and information can be viewed on the stable’s website. Lawton Stables can be found at the south end of the island in the private resort community of Sea Pines. It is located at 190 Greenwood Drive.

Daufuskie Trail Rides

Daufuskie Trail Rides, found on Daufuskie Island, offers unique experiences for riders of all skill sets. They have programs that specialize in custom beach rides, as well as wooded or historical trail rides for those looking to have a particularly distinctive horseback riding experience. Each trail ride is personalized to an individual or group’s skillset or comfort level. Each group is limited to no more than five riders per party. Rides range between one to three hours each. Pricing can be found on the Daufuskie Trail Rides’ website. The company is presented by Haig Point and is located at 11 Avenue of Oaks on Daufuskie Island.

Camelot Farms Equestrian Center

Camelot Farms Equestrian Center on Saint Helena Island is a 70-acre farm located near Beaufort. Just 5 miles from Hunting Island State Park, this equestrian center offers sights to see as well as historical learning. There are two instructional trail rides offered as well as beginners’ lessons prior if there is a need to practice beforehand. The center offers a 1 hour trail ride and an additional 2 hour option.

The shorter of the two options takes riders past plentiful live oak trees and palms, whereas the longer trail ride offers a coastline ride to Saint Helena Sound. Helmets are provided to guests, and it is asked that children under 8 years old not participate in the ride. For pricing, individuals may call 843-838-3938. Camelot Farms Equestrian Center can be found at 101 Tom and Mike Lane on Saint Helena Island.
