‘Today’s’ 3rd Hour on Hilton Head: Behind the scenes if you weren’t at the live event

Bright and early Friday morning, NBC’s “3rd Hour of TODAY” anchors and their fans gathered on the beach in front of a Sea Pines community Vrbo home.

Sun rising over the beach, attendees first gathered at the Coligny Beach Parking Lot to take the Sea Pines Trolley onto the filming location.

With only a limited audience allowed, the approximately 100 who were able to reserve a spot, waited ready to hop into one of three, 32 person trolleys.

Tickets for the event sold out within just 30 minutes.

The morning’s festivities continued with beachgoers biking in the background and offshore boaters and shrimpers trolling the waters.

Primarily from Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, a majority of the attendees were local to the area. Some tourists, however, were lucky enough to snatch a ticket during their limited time here, while others happened across the filming site on their morning beach walk.

“I just love the fact that they are on beautiful Hilton Head and enjoying our great town and it’s a great day on the beautiful beach. So, I’m just glad we’re able to showcase it.”, said Martha Sabol, a fan of the show who watched while they filmed on the beach.

Some attendees came prepared, even bringing signs to display during the broadcast. Some of their decorative signs were specific for their show’s favorite anchors.

Years-long fans lined the broadcasting area to get a glimpse of the ‘Today’ show anchors, with many trying to snap a selfie or two.

“I am a ‘Today’ show lover,” said Vanessa Coker, a fan of the show who turned up to watch the live broadcast. “I’ve watched it since I was a little girl.”

Many families attended, with one little boy wanting to get a wave from ‘Today’ anchor, Al Roker. He got his wish.

In additional celebration, today was Columbia native Craig Melvin’s 43rd birthday and fans were ready to celebrate with signs in hand to wish the anchor a ‘happy birthday’.

Melvin received a cake on-air from local bakery, Signe’s Heaven Bound Bakery & Cafe.

“It was so much fun. It was exciting to see them in person.” “I mean we love Craig Melvin. He’s a South Carolina guy and we’re from South Carolina and of course Al, Dylan, Sheinelle, all of them. They are wonderful.”, said Ansley Westbrook and Ashley Vogel, live viewers from the show.
