Want to throw a Masters viewing party? Tee up and get ready for the weekend in an Augusta National-themed way with these five tips for throwing an immersive viewing party. Watch your favorite golfer and emulate the tournament for a memorable event guests will be talking about for years to come.

They may eventually forget who won the tournament, but they won’t forget your party.

Dress the part

Not everyone can sport the winner’s authentic green jacket, but green is still the premiere choice of color. Not a fan of green? Guests may opt to dress as if they were going to the tournament in person. This can mean a variety of things.

For ladies, it may mean their best golf attire, sundress or sporty pair of shorts with extra points given if they are green, yellow or white. In this case, unlike the tournament, the more points the better. Be sure to choose sneakers or flats as if walking along the green was on the day’s itinerary.

Men, bring out the khakis, polos and lucky golf hat. If it’s a bit chilly, a button-down will work just as well. Sneakers or loafers are the shoe of choice. No spikes for this party.

Decorations are a must

For a Masters party, green and yellow are an obvious choice. Etsy and Amazon both have several options for small or average-sized golf flags that can boost any party’s authenticity. To make a hole-in-one with guests, Amazon offers an artificial grass table runner.

To fully immerse your guests in the Augusta National experience, try accessorizing with groupings of Azaleas to complete the look and bring the scent of the Masters to the party.

Want to go the extra mile?

If a grass lawn is an option, consider having the lawn mowed that day to bring the scent of freshly cut grass to guests as they arrive on the green. Cut branches of magnolia, pink dogwood and juniper are also appropriate accessories as they can be found along holes five, two, and six respectively. More fragrant species of trees, flowers and vines you’d find along each of the greens at Augusta National Golf Course, including the Yellow Jasmine, the South Carolina State Flower, may be found here.

Create a menu

Synonymous with the Masters Tournament, a pimento cheese sandwich is nearly a requirement. Next, a barbeque pulled-pork sandwich as well as a Green Jacket Salad are on the leaderboard. An egg salad sandwich, good old-fashioned potato chips and a fruit and vegetable platter are all good choices too.

Last, but certainly not least, dessert. Although this year the Masters dropped its famed Georgia Peach ice cream sandwich from the menu, it would be easy to recreate this sweet treat with the addition of chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, or white chocolate Georgia-pecan cookies as secondary options. Peach cobbler can also be a winning choice if the party will have a sit-down dinner. Want an appetizer? Set out a bowl of peanuts, deviled eggs or a charcuterie board to satisfy snack-hungry guests.

Drinks anyone?

For a fully immersive experience, serve an Azalea cocktail, Stand 12 or a John Daly.

Want some added fun?

Set up your own putting green, this will get guests in the Masters frame of mind. They might even start a tournament of their own. Want to test your friends’ inner golf knowledge? Play a round of golf trivia. It’s another way to get your guests engaged and ready for the tournament with the Masters’ decades-worth of history.

Whether attending in person, from home or throwing a Masters viewing party, enjoy the weekend, make memories, and get ready for the RBC Heritage next week.
