One man killed and 4 injured in Sun City crash on US 278 Saturday, police say

A Hardeeville man and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash near Sun City on U.S. 278 Saturday afternoon, a S.C. Highway Patrol news release says.

Fifty-three-year-old Jose Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen said Sunday. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Garcia was driving a 2003 Chrysler minivan eastbound on U.S. 278 when his vehicle and a 2011 Hyundai collided, the Highway Patrol release says.

It says the Hyundai was attempting to make a left turn onto Sun City Blvd.

The driver of the Hyundai was injured, along with three passengers in the vehicle with Garcia, says the release.

S.C. Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
