29-year-old pedestrian killed Saturday when struck in Beaufort County, police say

A 29-year-old woman was in the roadway of Trask Parkway when she was struck by a 2008 GMC SUV late Saturday, officials say.

Markevia Covington, 29, of Columbia, S.C., was pronounced dead Saturday night, Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen said Sunday.

An S.C. Highway Patrol media report says Covington was a pedestrian when struck by the vehicle near Poppy Hill Circle.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, the release says.

An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

In an unrelated event, James Wallace Powell was killed while riding his bike on Trask Parkway near Big Road in October, 2018.
