Pop-up coronavirus testing will be available in Jasper Co. Friday. Here’s where and when

A pop-up coronavirus testing clinic will be available in Jasper County on Friday.

The clinic is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. at Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

The Medical University of South Carolina is running the clinic. No referrals or appointments are needed.

As of Tuesday, just over 261,000 coronavirus tests had been performed in the state, with about 24,600 of those coming back “positive,” according to DHEC data released Wednesday afternoon.

DHEC in early May set out to test 2% of the state’s population during May and June, for a combined total of 220,000 tests. DHEC met its May goal two weeks ago.

The state-wide testing push comes amid an uptick in reported coronavirus cases around South Carolina, including in the Lowcountry.

Beaufort County on Wednesday logged its highest seven-day rolling average of diagnosed COVID-19 cases since April 6. The county had 483 cases as of Tuesday but, according to state data, health officials estimate there could be as many as 2,967 undiagnosed cases. Fourteen people have died due to the coronavirus in Beaufort County.

Jasper County recorded 50 cases as of Tuesday, with an estimated 507 undiagnosed cases. Two people have died in the county.

South Carolina posted its single-day high in newly discovered COVID-19 cases Monday, announcing that 542 people had been infected with the novel virus. Those figures followed days of similar record-breaking numbers.

“I’m more concerned about COVID-19 in South Carolina than I ever have been before,” state epidemiologist Linda Bell said during a news conference Wednesday.

Other permanent coronavirus testing sites in Beaufort and Jasper counties include:
