State reopens all shellfish beds except for one Beaufort County creek
The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has reopened all shellfish harvesting beds in the state except for Beaufort County’s Wallace Creek, the agency announced Wednesday.
The harvesting beds were closed Tuesday evening through Thursday morning due to “excessive rainfall.”
“Water quality data indicate that bacteria levels are once again suitable for shellfish harvesting,” said Mike Pearson, Manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation Section.
