Hilton Head may be getting trolleys. This is what we know

Trolleys may be coming to Hilton Head Island!

The Town of Hilton Head Island has been working with Palmetto Breeze to see if they can get a trolley system to run from Coligny Beach Park to Shelter Cove Towne Center, according to Charlie Cousins, community development director with the town.

Cousins said that Palmetto Breeze received a federal grant to purchase shuttles to be used for this service and the town provided them with money to get the grant.

But apart from that, there is a lot that is still up in the air.

It is unsure as to if the trolley will be free of charge or if it will cost money, and prices have yet to be set if it will cost money to ride.

The goal is to have the shuttles run between Coligny Beach Park and Shelter Cove Towne Center, but the actual route is yet to be determined.

They are hoping to get the trolleys up and running by late summer, but there are still a lot of unknowns at this point.

Cousins said that they are hoping to have more solidified information later this spring that they will be able to bring before town council.
