‘No to hate and violence in the Lowcountry’ rally to be held tonight in Bluffton
A rally to say “No to hate and violence in the Lowcountry” will be held Tuesday in Bluffton in response to the events in Charlottesville over the weekend.
The rally will begin at 6 p.m. at Oyster Factory Park on the corner of Bridge and Wharf streets, according to a Lowcountry Indivisible news release.
“Events in Charlottesville this past weekend have shaken many of us to the core,” the release said. “The hate and violence seen in Charlottesville are not values that the Bluffton and the Lowcountry communities endorse or support. We will be rallying in support and solidarity with the people of Charlottesville and to remember those lives lost.”
One person died during clashes between white supremacists and counter-protesters at the Charlottesville rally that began as a protest of the removal of a Confederate Civil War statute. Two Virginia state troopers were killed in the crash of a helicopter.
