Which Lowcountry island did Men’s Journal call ‘domestic bliss’ for vacationers?

Daufuskie Island is “domestic bliss” for vacationers looking for a weekend retreat, according to list of “Vacation-Worthy American Islands” compiled by Men’s Journal.

The list of nine islands — written by Adrienne Jordan and published online last week by the national lifestyle magazine — touts Daufuskie’s local artisans, top-of-the-line golf facilities, and outdoor activities such as horseback riding.

Hungry visitors may want to indulge in Lowcountry staples at Marshide Mama’s or the Old Daufuskie Crab Company, the list recommends.

The other vacation-worthy American islands included on list were: Amelia Island, Fla.; Sea Island, Ga.; Antelope Island State Park, Utah; Brunswick Islands, N.C.; Newport Island, R.I; Padre Island, Texas; South Bass Island, Ohio; and San Juan Islands, Wash.

The magazine does not specify how the list was compiled or what criteria was used to decide which islands made the cut.

Daufuskie Island has been attracting quite a bit of attention from national publications in recent months.

Last month, the “up and downs of the market” for homes on Daufuskie Island were the subject of a story written by Nancy Keates and published by the Wall Street Journal.

Also in July, Condé Nast Traveler, a luxury travel and lifestyle magazine, named Daufuskie Island one of the country’s most underrated islands.
